THE ALIYAH MONOLOGUES

BS'D
It is May,2006. I am in Israel with my Mom (77, kin eina hora). We just got back from NBN to get my forms for Aliyah. We are here for my youngest daughter's wedding. While sitting with me, my Mom, who still drives and stays up until all hours, asks the nice man...'Would they accept me?' This came from the clear blue. This was not only her first trip to Israel, but it was her first trip across the ocean. The Nefesh b Nefesh man looked at her with mock sterness and said 'Are you Jewish?' My Mom looked shocked. She replied...'I am her mother..of course I am Jewish'. So, he politely pulled out another set of forms and we went on our way. On the way back to where we were staying I started to ask what brought this on, but she stopped me and said...'I just like it here'
So, back to my ever so calm Kallah....Yeah right..there is an oxymoron....
Well, my other daughters arrive tomorrow and my Tzadik comes the next day (YEAH!).
To be continued.....

PART 2 OF THE ALIYAH MONOLOGUES!
Well, Rodrigo! This was just the beginning of our adventure. After filling out kilos of papers, getting proof of our Jewish standing, getting references from people who have known us since, I am not sure, but I think the FLOOD! Plus 3 Gedolim h'doar and 2 people to whom we do not owe money and a Kosher butcher....we had 700 passport photos and a 5 X 7 for NBN. That took many hours because in an effort to save a bit of money, we had my husband take them. Every picture he took made us both laugh so hard that the pix were unusable. Finally, we got 1 that was so-so. Way better than on my American passport. So, all was ready. My Mom went to Wal-Greens and had her photos in 10 minutes.
Rosh HaShannah came and went and we were sliding into Succos and I heard nothing. I was to go ahead and find a dira for my Mom and me and then come back for Pesach and go to Florida and pack Mom and stuff for her Aliyah. A week before Succos 2 momentous events happened. Since all is good because it is orchestrated by Ha Sh-m I will just say that one event was wonderful the other....interesting! On her birthday, which was a week before Succos, my daughter had her second boy. The Bris was in the Succah on Shabbat, the first day of Succos. YOY! I was not too concerned because her mother in law was going to go first this baby and I was supposed to follow making Aliyah. Then the Jewish Agency called. They lost some of my paperwork. However, since I had copies, I would go 'straight to the front of the line'. October came, October went as did November heading into December. The Yankees did not make the series. Signs were, shall I say, interesting. Finally, I booked a flight on Israir for Jan 1 2007! I explained that I wanted to see my new grandson before his Bar Mitzvah. Ok, an exaggeration, but puhleeeez..it would have been easier to get into the former Soviet Union. Meanwhile, back in Israel....My Micha learned to say Safta and other words but none quite so important. My son informed us that his little group was about to increase by 1. My younger daughter, you remember, the one who got married in June, gave us the wonderful news that our family was about to expand even further. And I got many requests for 'Could you take JUST this?' from people who found out I was going to Israel. The only thing that was not left at our house was an elephant! So, off I went, on Jan 1, 2007 on Israir. It was a lovely empty flight and it was quite reasonable. I told the Jewish Agency they could reach me on my computer and got a Skype number because the first of my dirot from a dark place had no phone. Yes, internet, but no phone. I carefully explained that the rest of whatever had top be done would have to be done from Israel. I was not returning to the US for a while.
LOL! Naive I would say. Jews+Bureaucracy=norm!
5 days after my dira from the dark side was finally unpacked and settled in, my computer rang! It was the Jewish Agency. I had to be back in their office in 2 days to pick up my specially issued Tudot Oleh.It was good for exactly 10 days. After much arguing, I finally tried to book a flight. Nada, nothing, clum, zip, zero, efess, not a seat to be had. Finally, a seat opened on Israir. I was overjoyed because my experience had been so pleasant. I was on the flight in 2 days heading back to NY. This time the flight was filled to capacity. My seatmate and I had to hold each other's food while the other ate. My legs were precariously balanced below my chin.I am 4 feet 10 inches tall. She was almost 6 feet.
I landed in one sore piece and got spend 2 Shabbosim in Monsey!
To be continued!
MAY WE CONSTANTLY KEEP THE GEULAH IN OUR HEART, MIND AND SOUL AND MAY WE MERIT THE COMING OF MOSHIACH AND THE BUILDING OF THE BAIS HAMIKDASH TODAY!
